Government consultation on the effect of tribunal fees on access to justice, volume and quality

Peninsula Team

September 29 2015

Parliament decided on introducing tribunal fees and charges as means to reduce the cost of courts and tribunal services on funding by the public. Policies were created to introduce fees to bring a claim at an employment tribunal, higher fees for civil proceedings. Via the consultation, feedback is expected on these issues:
  1. How has the access to justice been changed, in relation with the higher court fees and the launch of employment tribunal fees? Are there any alterations to the amount and quality of new cases?
  2. The effect of the above on the competitiveness of the legal services market in England and Wales;
  3. How have the defendants been affected by the recently established mandatory criminal charge? Is the charge reasonable, proportionate and practicable? If not, any means of resolving the issues.
