If I’ve learned anything from these forty years, it’s that business owners must have resilience and determination. They must work hard and work smart. And they must understand the importance of being a team player, no matter how high up they are.
To achieve success, you must also achieve failure. You learn what works and what doesn’t work. It’s okay (and inevitable) to make mistakes. My biggest piece of advice is to always manage your expectations. Be happy when things go right but don’t get too excited. And don’t get too sad if something doesn’t go right.
To look after a business, you have to look after your own stress and wellbeing first. You’ve got to be able to take things on the chin and be ready to go back to the drawing board sometimes. Never be afraid to make decisions and try new things. The worst thing you can do is sit on the fence.
