Menopause Employment Ambassador, Mariella Frostrup, has partnered with leaders from industry, healthcare and the legal profession to create the first independent Menopause Advisory Group.

The group aims to support employers on steps they can take to help women to stay in work and will provide the Menopause Employment Ambassador, who was appointed in October 2024, with expert knowledge from a wide range of sectors.

Mariella Frostrup said: “I’m delighted to have this incredible group of professionals helping me ensure that women in midlife, a time when we often have to balance so much responsibility, are properly supported at work.

“Far too many experienced and capable women are forced out of employment through no fault of their own, hurting their earnings and our nation’s economy. Together we can create a more supportive and happier workplace where everyone can succeed.”

According to the CIPD, 53% of women experiencing menopause have not been able to attend work due to their symptoms and 10% leave work for good — costing around £1.5 billion each year for businesses.

The Employment Rights Bill, which is currently being scrutinised in the House of Lords, includes a proposal to require large employers to publish menopause action plans setting out how they will support employees through the menopause.

Mumsnet calls for employers to publish parental leave policies

Mumsnet is calling on MPs to back an amendment to the Employment Rights Bill requiring large employers with more than 250 employees to publish their parental leave policies and pay. The parenting site, which has been campaigning for change in this area since 2019, has written to all the FTSE 250 urging them to publish their parental leave policies. According to figures for 2024, 43 of the FTSE 100 companies already provide this transparency.
