As if April isn’t busy enough for company owners as the new financial year rolls around, there’s a lot more to think about this year about when it comes to employment law. I can’t remember a time in Peninsula’s thirty-five year history when employment law issues have so dominated the headlines, particularly in relation to pay parity.

This April heralds a raft of further updates and changes, including the deadline for the gender pay gap reports and minimum wage increases. We look at these key employment law developments in today’s issue of In the Loop to help you get your head around what’s going on.

More broadly, though, I wanted to talk today about the necessity of delegation if you’re going to be successful as a business owner and the importance of having trusted advisors around you to support you.

I borrowed the line in today’s title from the famous Italian economist Mario Draghi. He said, “I trust the people I work with. I delegate.” And he’s right. Let’s take the example of these forthcoming changes to employment law. They’re broad, wide-ranging, complex and they’re potentially damaging to your business if you don’t implement them correctly.

As a business owner, you could spend hours poring over the detail, checking you’re adhering to the new changes. But do you really want to? Is that why you went into business? And, looking at it purely from a commercial perspective, is that the best investment of your time?

Alternatively, you could ignore the changes and find yourself slap bang in a tribunal, with crippling costs and fees to pay that could signify the end of the business you’ve worked so hard to build.

That’s of course where we at Peninsula come in. We hold your hand, guide you through all the changes and nuances and complexities. We are a phone call or an email away, 24/7, 365 days a year. We do this stuff all day long, every day. This is our business. No one knows it better.

All this brings me back to Draghi’s quote; the need to trust the people you work with.

At Peninsula, we want to work with you to become one of your most trusted advisors. We want you to delegate all your employment law issues over to us. We want you to call us, whatever the problem, however small. We want to help you nip it in the bud, knowing you’re following the right processes and procedures.

Most importantly, we want to free you up to do what you best: run and grow your own business.

If you want a bit more guidance about the new changes, or have any concerns about an employment law issue that might be nagging away at you, call our advice team on 0808 198 7934. They’ll be happy to help. Trust us and delegate to us—that’s what we are here for.
