When employing younger workers, employers need to be aware that there are greater restrictions in place in order to provide young people with more protection in the workplace.
This increased protection covers areas such as working hours, breaks and rest periods. Alongside this, a further distinction is drawn between workers classed as “children”, those under compulsory leaving age, and “young workers”, those above compulsory school leaving age but under the age of 18.
