Theft in the workplace can be a real problem, costing businesses millions of pounds every year and having a serious impact on profitability. It is important to keep an eye out for possible theft as even small scale pilfering such as items of stationery can build up and become common practice if left unchecked. In dealing with the possibility of theft, an employer should seek to gather as much tangible evidence that theft has occurred and that they can link that to a particular person. Accusing somebody of theft is a difficult move to take unless you have hard evidence to back it up, although not impossible, depending upon the circumstances. CCTV and computer records can help prove guilt in certain situations. It is highly recommended to seek expert advice when dealing with theft in the workplace.
