An employee who is breastfeeding (up to 26 weeks after the birth) is entitled to, without loss of pay, one of the following options as agreed with her employer.

  • Time off from her work for the purpose of breastfeeding in the work place where breastfeeding facilities are provided by her employer.
  • A reduction in her working hours for the purpose of breastfeeding somewhere other than the workplace (1 hour per day).

An employer is not required to provide facilities for breastfeeding if the provision of such facilities would give rise to a cost other than a nominal cost.
