Employee Assistance Programme Advice Guide

16 April 2019

An Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is an employee benefit programme that is offered by many employers in order to assist employees to deal with personal problems that might adversely impact their work performance, health and/or well-being.

It is a confidential life management and personal support service and is often made available 24/7, 365 days of the year.

In addition to providing counselling to employees, EAP can also include stress coaching and health assessments that employees may also avail of.

EAP can, therefore, be seen as an effective tool for employers in tackling issues in respect of work performance, sickness and absenteeism with statistics showing that companies with EAP services tending to have much reduced levels of long-term absenteeism than those that do not utilise such a service.
