Accident Reporting

11 February 2013
The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (known as RIDDOR) require employers to report to the enforcing authorities through the Incident Contact Centre specified injuries, cases of occupational ill-health and near misses that happen as the result of a work activity. If any of the defined incidents occur to any one (not just their employees) on their work premises or to anyone anywhere (including their employees) as a result of their work activity it must be reported. Reports of fatal and specified (major) injuries must be reported as soon as possible and without any delay. Less serious incidents causing an inability for or absence from work of more than 7 days should be reported as soon as possible and in every case within 15 working days of the incident coming to the employer’s attention.   See also: Accident Records; Accident Investigation.
