Employee Appreciation Day: Tips on supporting employee wellbeing

March 5th is Employee Appreciation Day – a day for businesses to thank their employees for their hard work throughout the year. Needless to say, it’s particularly special this year.

But, did you know that 69% of employees claim they’d work harder if they felt more appreciated?

With that in mind, we want to show you how you can support your employees not just for one day, but all year round.

Reduce the risk of burnout ─ promote a healthy work-life balance

Burnout, we’ve all heard of it and it’s a real problem. It’s work-related stress that can damage employee wellbeing and lead to negative morale and lower productivity at work.

One method of avoiding burnout is to ensure your employees have a healthy work-life balance. Here are some tips on getting the balance right in your business:

  • Avoid emailing or contacting employees outside working hours.
  • Make sure your staff take their daily breaks.
  • Consider flexible remote working (even when restrictions lift).
  • Make sure workloads are manageable.

Praise your employees for their good work

Employee Appreciation Day is the perfect time to thank and praise your employees for their hard work. It’s also the perfect time to start a new thread. Get into the habit of thanking your employees for their work on a more regular basis – even for the little things – and they’ll feel better about the impact their work is having.

Book an employee wellbeing workshop

wellbeing workshop is a great way to promote positive mental health in the workplace and show your employees you care.

From mindfulness to stress management, a workshop will give your employees the tools to stay healthy and happy at work. It can also improve employee performance and reduce sick days – so it benefits your business, too.

Provide support with an EAP

Giving employees access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) will show them you care. An EAP provides employees with a range of supports, including:

  • Face-to-face counselling.
  • Professional support with a 24-hour helpline.
  • Helpful online resources for wellbeing.
  • Expert medical support.

An EAP means you can support your employees throughout the year. And as the support is outsourced to wellbeing professionals, you can just get on with running your business.
