Frontline staff, especially in retail can have a challenging time during December and then the period that covers the January sales. With 66% of frontline workers having reported they experienced work-related stress generally, employee wellbeing is of paramount importance at this time of the year

There are a few ways employers can keep moral up, the primary tool being an employee’s relationship with their line manager.

The CIPD 2024 Good Work Index Survey suggests, “Leaders should aim to strengthen trust and psychological safety through encouraging people to speak up and be open, and by demonstrating these behaviours themselves. Using one’s voice should be embraced and rewarded, rather than punished.”

The national institute for care and excellence (NICE) recommend, business owners and owner-managers should address their own mental health needs as well as those of their employees. Take a preventive approach to mental wellbeing at work, for example using mental health and communication skills training to foster positive mental wellbeing, as well as tackling poor mental wellbeing. Think about accessing employee assistance programmes and occupational health services.
