Minister Simon Harris has launched a new incentive scheme to encourage employers to take on more apprentices. The scheme is one of several recruitment incentives announced under the July Jobs Stimulus package.

Under the new scheme, you could be entitled to as much as €3,000 for taking on new apprentices. The financial incentive will be available to employers who take on an apprentice between March 1st, 2020, and the end of this year.

If you participate in the scheme, you’ll receive €2,000 upfront per apprentice and a further €1,000 after 12 months if the apprentice is still employed with your business.

Currently, more than 18,000 people are undertaking apprenticeships in areas such as:

  • Construction
  • Engineering
  • Electrical
  • IT
  • Healthcare
  • Financial services

The Government would like to see this figure grow and hopes this new incentive will encourage employers across all sectors to increase the number of apprenticeships they offer.
