Nurses Direct is a healthcare recruitment company.

They recruit and deploy nurses to care homes across the South West. Company Director, Elisa, explains why she wanted support from Peninsula.

The situation

Elisa reached out to Peninsula for two reasons...

First, she needed support managing safety risks. Every business needs to appoint a ‘competent’ Health & Safety person by law – and Elisa initially took on this role herself.

But working alongside the care industry made this role challenging. Fast-changing CQC guidelines meant this role became too difficult to manage alone.

Secondly, she wanted to do more to support employee wellbeing. Working in the care industry is often emotionally demanding, and can impact nurses’ wellbeing. So, Elisa wanted to give workers access to professional counselling - to help them overcome any mental health challenge.

As we offer both unlimited Health & Safety services and employee wellbeing support, Elisa decided Peninsula was the right choice for Nurses Direct.

How Peninsula helped

As a Peninsula client, Elisa now enjoys regular Health & Safety audits.

It means she feels confident she’s always in line with any new legislation.

Peninsula’s consultants will visit, and check for any gaps in her business’s policies or procedures. Then, they’ll create an action plan, and break it down into manageable chunks.

To help Elisa stay on top of her duties, her consultants will set up reminders on her online Health & Safety software – BrightSafe – which is included in her Peninsula package.

So, Elisa knows exactly what she needs to do to keep her business compliant, and when.

Often, legal changes means that Elisa needs new policies or contracts. When this happens, Peninsula’s documentation team will create the paperwork for her and upload it onto her software.

Plus, with Peninsula’s EAP, Elisa feels like she is fulfilling her role as a supportive employer. Whenever a nurse has had a difficult day, Elisa can direct them to unlimited counselling.

Unlimited support to stay risk-free...

Along with Peninsula’s Health & Safety services, Elisa also has unlimited HR support.

Elisa finds this particularly useful to check whether she’s providing staff with the correct entitlements.

For example, Nurses Direct hire agency staff who work part-time. As they aren’t full-time ‘employees’, Peninsula’s advisers checked that Elisa was providing nurses with the right HR contracts.

Then, Elisa’s advisers set up new contracts for nurses, with clauses specific to agency workers.

Above all else, Elisa enjoys the reassurance that she won’t miss HR or Health & Safety updates. Employment law is complex and fast-changing – but having a friendly adviser to unpack any new changes makes it easy for Elisa to plan ahead.
