In some situations, flexible working can be an extremely good solution for employers and employees alike. Employers reduce the risk of losing valued employees and employees have the personal benefits of being able to develop a good work-life balance.
Flexible working can take many forms such as part time working, flexi-time, job sharing, working from home, staggered hours, annual hours etc.
Any employee has the right to ask his or her employer for flexible work arrangements, but some employees have a statutory right to ask for a flexible working pattern.
Under the law, an employer must seriously consider an application made for flexible working. Only where there is a legitimate business reason can employers reasonably decline a request.
