Calls regarding employee misuse of social media has doubled in the last 18 months according to statistics that I abstracted from our advice service today. This seems to prove the point that now is a good time to ensure you have your sufficient HR policies and procedures regarding social media usage in place. As I have said previously review social media policies that you use presently and ensure any wording encompasses future platforms. For many this really is a no-brainer, however many employers fail to realise the potential fall-out should an employee post defamatory comments about the business or indeed an individual within the business. So ensure you have in place sufficient protection should the trust of an employee be misjudged and comments are made regarding not just your business but also that of individuals within your organisation. Any policy implemented needs to be communicated to all staff detailing proper usage of social media and the consequences for misuse. Looking for help in drafting a social media HR policy?
