Introduction

Neil founded NECL 25 years ago. As an agency, NECL offer IT and digital marketing services to businesses. Their services include web design, digital marketing and social media support, IT installation, and lots more.

Here’s how Peninsula helped Neil save money when dealing with employee issues…

The situation

Before Peninsula, Neil was using a solicitor’s firm for HR advice.

He found that this became incredibly expensive, as he had to pay up to £300-400 for each hours’ worth of advice.

Neil felt like he was unable to properly discuss an issue in any depth. For example, if an employee was to become disruptive, Neil could find that he was unable to find a suitable way forwards without racking up a potentially unaffordable legal bill.

Plus, Neil wanted to set up HR policies and contracts for his staff, but the firm he used at that time charged thousands of pounds for each document. Frustrated, he mentioned his concerns to his accountant over a coffee – who recommended Peninsula.

As Peninsula provides unlimited employment law advice and documentation support for a fixed monthly fee, he decided to stop using the solicitor’s firm, and switch to Peninsula to make big savings.

We were using a London law firm for human resources. The problem was, we were paying very expensive hourly rates for solicitors. As a small business, very much like all other small businesses, we have a limited budget for this area of the business, so we didn’t have time overall to get to the heart of the issue or to get certain situations properly resolved without overspending and taking funds from other areas of the business to move forward.

How Peninsula helps

Once Neil signed up to Peninsula, he unlocked unlimited access to employment law advice. So, he could get in-depth support to navigate any potential or prevalent employee issues – without racking up a big fee.

For example, to help Neil navigate a problematic employee issue, Neil’s HR adviser listened to his concerns and created a full action plan. This contained practical tips to reduce risk and potential damage to the business.

Then, when the issue grew, Neil used Peninsula’s in-person support. This meant that a skilled employment law expert visited NECL to meet the employee - and facilitated a safe and fair departure.

Throughout this issue, Neil could call as often as he liked - at any time during the day, or evening - until he was satisfied it was resolved.

Expert documentation, for less

When Neil signed up to Peninsula, his advisers identified key policies and procedures which could help strengthen his legal protection.

To set up robust HR contracts for NECL, Maria, an employment law expert, set up a dedicated documentation exercise.

She asked Neil about the nature of his business, any issues he faced, and areas he wanted to improve.

Then, she created a full suite of bespoke HR policies, handbooks, and contracts for the business. All employees signed and accepted the new documents, including both full time and contracted staff.

“We wanted the law firm to do...

....all of our documentation, but it would cost thousands for each document, at a minimum, so it was just not viable at that point. So, when I got in touch with Peninsula, the first thing I did was a documentation exercise to create a suite of new HR documents for all employees

Neil received ongoing HR documentation support. That means his advisers continuously update and adapt the documents around employment law updates, or changing needs of the business.

Unlike a solicitor’s services, this comes at no extra cost – it’s all included within the same fixed fee. So, Neil can keep strengthening and adapting his HR documents, all without increasing spend.

Getting our HR docs through Peninsula and not a solicitor has probably saved us thousands of pounds in a given year, quite easily.
