Founded by Jennie Street in 2011, Rhubarb Farm is an agriculture-based, environmental social enterprise that throws a lifeline to the people who need it the most:
- Unemployed people
- Recovering drug and alcohol misusers
- Ex-offenders
- Young people not in education employment or training (NEET)
- Excluded school students
- People with learning difficulties
- People with mental and physical ill health
- Ex-service personnel
- People with dementia
Using therapeutic organic horticulture, the farm develops their skills, confidence and employability, as well as improving their health and wellbeing.
It’s a roaring success; growing year-on-year and offering a support network to more and more people.
But for all Jennie’s skill at giving people in need another chance in life, she still needed outside help…
Switching for success
Like most small business owners, Jennie had limited knowledge on HR and employment law. When one of her team became a problem, Jennie knew she had to deal with it in the right way.
